The Many Paths Into Data Architecture
Data architecture is a function, not a credential. The paths into it are genuinely varied, and that variety reflects something real about what the role actually demands.

This is useful because the semantic layer keeps coming back under different names: metrics layer, business logic layer, AI query interface, governed data contract. The link is worth keeping as a modern learning journal rather than a vendor pitch.
The caveat is that semantic layers can become governance theater if the organization does not agree on metric ownership. The product question is still who gets to define meaning and how that meaning survives tooling changes.
This is a good counterweight to traditional semantic-layer thinking because it asks whether AI-assisted query discovery changes where modeling work belongs. It fits the site because the interesting part is not the tool category, it is the boundary between governed meaning and flexible exploration.
I would read it with skepticism and curiosity. AI can reduce the friction of asking questions, but it does not magically settle definitions, metric ownership, or trust.
This is useful because data modeling is still one of the quiet foundations of analytics, ML, and application design. Good models make downstream work boring in the best way.
The link is older in spirit than the AI material, but that is exactly why it belongs here. New tools keep inheriting old modeling mistakes.
This is a useful architecture link because CQRS is powerful and easy to overapply. Separating reads from writes can clarify a system, but it can also introduce synchronization, consistency, and mental overhead.
The value here is the warning label as much as the pattern. Architecture patterns should earn their complexity.
