This is an older link, but the basics age well: understand the question, inspect the data, be skeptical of easy patterns, and communicate the analysis so someone can use it.

I am keeping the original http URL because that is the canonical source that still resolves. The content fits the site's recurring theme: analysis is decision support, not chart production.

This is useful because the semantic layer keeps coming back under different names: metrics layer, business logic layer, AI query interface, governed data contract. The link is worth keeping as a modern learning journal rather than a vendor pitch.

The caveat is that semantic layers can become governance theater if the organization does not agree on metric ownership. The product question is still who gets to define meaning and how that meaning survives tooling changes.

This is a good counterweight to traditional semantic-layer thinking because it asks whether AI-assisted query discovery changes where modeling work belongs. It fits the site because the interesting part is not the tool category, it is the boundary between governed meaning and flexible exploration.

I would read it with skepticism and curiosity. AI can reduce the friction of asking questions, but it does not magically settle definitions, metric ownership, or trust.

This is worth keeping because bronze, silver, and gold layers remain a common language for data platform design. Even when the exact stack changes, the idea of progressive refinement is still useful.

The caveat is that medallion architecture is not a substitute for ownership or quality rules. A named layer does not make data trustworthy by itself.
